Course Outline

Introduction

This course has been designed to have a sustainable benefit for people who may be required to come into contact with employees who may be under the influence of drink or drugs. In their role as a manager, Supervisor, First aid responder, Health & Social careworkers or company nurses they may have responsibiliies to these persons and this course provides a basic overview of the signs and symptoms of drug abuse.

While recognising that each employer has variations in the way they identify person's under the influence, if at all, this training will provide and ability to identify any person under the influence of certain categories of drug, so that they may take the correct an appropriate action in accordance with company policy.

Drugs in the workplace is a growing issue and stduies in the past have shown that, for example, 2% of the UK workforce regularly uses Cocaine, that the annual cost to industry for alcohol and drug abuse is around £8Bn and only 20% of companies have a workable druh and alcohol policy.

It is imperetive that organisations understand their responsibilities in relation to drug and alcohol use and do not get caught out by the provisions of the Health & Safety at work act or even the Corporate Manslaughter & Homicide Act.
