This 3rd Edition of the aide memoir comes at a time when the Department for Transport have just completed a public consultation on how to move forward with the enforcement of drink and drug drivers. There is no doubt that the problem of drink and drug driving continues to increase if recent trends are anything to go by. Our attention still needs to be focused on the issues of drink and drug driving and recent studies by the European Monitoring Centre for drugs and alcohol addiction (EMCDDA) found the most frequently used drugs in drivers was Diazepam and Cannabis.

Many feel that a technological device is the answer to all our questions, but the science for portable police use is still a long way off. This means that the main method of detection available is the use of the Field Impairment Test. 

This booklet will provide an overview of the necessary methods used during Field Impairment Testing and the ability to determine drug categories used by use of these tests.
